The Multicultural Student Success Conference is designed to introduce students, more specifically students of color to KU.  New and returning students have the opportunity to meet with faculty, staff, student organizations; and various departments that provide support through services, resources and programs on campus. The other dimension of this event is the corporate aspect.  Representatives from several companies are invited to present information about the importance of involvement, leadership, internships and possible career opportunities.

The Multicultural Student Success Conference-MSSC is typically scheduled as part of the Academic Success Week-ASW.  This year the ASW took place September 24-29, 2006.  “ASW is an entire week of informational and academic activities, lectures, and workshops designed to help new students become oriented to academic services and resources at KU- thus helping students become connected and academically successful.”

Joe Martin is a nationally known speaker, respected university professor,
author, and educational consultant.

At the age of 24, Joe became the youngest faculty member ever hired to teach at a state university in the state of Florida. He also has the distinct honor of being the youngest professor at his institution to ever be nominated twice for the "Distinguished Teacher’s Award."

Joe has addressed more than 450 organizations, associations, businesses, colleges and universities, helping hundreds of thousands of students and staff members across the country achieve more, live and serve more passionately, and maximize their leadership potential. In 1999, the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities selected Joe as its national "College Speaker of the Year." And in 2003, Campus Activities Magazine nominated him Joe as "Speaker of the Year."
