Asian
American Student Union (AASU)
The Asian American
Student Union (AASU) is a student organization that represents the concerns
& interests of Asian American students at the University of Kansas.
AASU's goal is to promote & educate the University community about
the culture & issues affecting Asian Americans.
AASU's secondary mission is to encourage multiculturalism. Throughout
the school year, AASU sponsors several social events from dances to
bowling to picnics. The Asian American Student Union welcomes every
one to attend & participate in all AASU activities & meetings.
Black
Student Union (BSU)
The purpose of the Black Student Union (BSU) is to establish & enhance a beneficial means
of intercultural communication with the University of Kansas campus
community. BSU strives to achieve its goals by promoting activities
of common interest &benefit to Black students & by fostering
educational growth of KU students.
BSU also serves KU students by offering its members a means of self
government & student representation to the central administration,
Student Senate, & faculty. It also serves as a liaison to other
student organizations. The Black Student Union encourages all interested
persons to attend & participate in BSU meetings.
First
Nations Student Association (FNSA)
The First Nations Student Association (FNSA) was formed to address issues such as the
recruitment & retention of native American students. It also serves
as a support group for Native Americans at the University of Kansas.
FNSA sponsors Native American Heritage Month, the Annual Spring Powwow,
informational dinners & activities for members & potential members.
FNSA educates the campus & the Lawrence community about Native American
issues.
The Native American student population is continually growing &
all are encouraged to join &/or attend the meetings & events.
Hispanic American Leadership Organization (HALO)
The KU Hispanic American Leadership Organization (HALO) was established to serve the Hispanic community
at KU. HALO's goals & objectives include: representing the Hispanic
community by participating in university & civic events; functioning
as a support system for students at KU; fostering customs of the Hispanic
people; & informing students about university related issues.
Membership is open, & individuals interested in joining HALO are encouraged
to attend weekly meetings & sponsored activities.
National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC)
KU's chapter of the National Pan-Hellenic Council is comprised of 5 fraternities and 5 sororities.
It strives to bring unity to all black greek letter organizations, to uplift the KU community and to promote scholarship, leadership, community service and social interaction.
Members of the Council participate in many community service projects, fund raisers, and philanthropies, both on and off campus. Council members are also responsible for a large amount of campus event programming and coordinating, as well as campus leadership.
Each member organization of the NPHC is responsible for their own membership intake program. Individuals who are interested in becoming a member are encouraged to contact the fraternity or sorority chapter directly, or the NPHC to receive further information. Contact SILC
