SOAR (Students Obtaining Academic Resources) is a free peer-tutoring and mentoring service offered through Hawk Link. Tutoring is available in a variety of freshman and sophomore level courses and is held one-on-one so as to effectively meet the needs of each individual student. Each tutoring session lasts approximately one hour and is held on a once-a-week basis. Students may choose which course they would like to be tutored in as well as the time slot that is most convenient for them.
Most of the SOAR session is spent on tutoring, but peer-mentoring is also an important component. Mentoring, like tutoring, is tailored to meet the needs of each individual student and may include: time management, note-taking strategies, study-skills, transitioning to college life, information about campus resources, or simply checking in to see how the student is doing.
Exam review sessions are another exciting component of SOAR. These study sessions will be offered in a variety of courses and will be held several times throughout the semester. Each exam review will be tailored specifically to the course syllabi of that particular exam. All students are welcome to these review sessions regardless of whether they participate in one-on-one tutoring. A calendar of these exam reviews is available at the Multicultural Resource Center or can be accessed by clicking here.
